The Franciscan Church of the Assumption was founded in 1845, and has had a long history under the custodianship of the Conventual Franciscan Friars. Located at 812 N. Salina Street in Syracuse, the present church was constructed in 1870. The building was severely damaged by fire in 1934, and subsequently restored. Instantly recognized by it's majestic twin towers overlooking the City of Syracuse, Assumption is known as one of Syracuse's great architecural and historic treasures.

In 1997, the Diocese of Syracuse granted the Franciscan Church of the Assumption the canonical status of conventual church, clarifying the institution's mission to reinvigorate and renew the North side of Syracuse. Assumption's liturgy is currently co-ministered by Father John Ruffo, OFM Conv, Bro. Joe Freitag, and Sr. Ann Kenyon.

Arrangements for scheduling masses for your intentions and enrollments to the Franciscan Mission Association may be made at the friary between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Urgent sick calls are available at any time. Holy Communion is brought to the sick and shut-ins on a regular basis. Please call to make arrangements for this with our ministry to the sick.

Arrangements for marriage should be made one year before the marriage is to take place. You must be registered in the parish prior to making these arrangemnts.

Please register in advance. Baptism arrangements are made on an individual basis.
